Hello! My name is Amy Small, and I'm so happy to serve as Art teacher for Grades K through 8 here at St. James Regional Catholic School. I began teaching at St. James in 2013. Prior to that, I established the Art Program at Ridley Park Presbyterian Church Nursery School and served as the Art teacher there for 5 years. My background also includes working for 9 years as a licensed and Board-certified Art therapist with children and adolescents in Philadelphia and additionally serving as a clinical supervisor to graduate Art Therapy student interns. I am a graduate of both Cardinal O'Hara High School and the Pennsylvania Governor's School for the Arts. I earned my Bachelor's degree in Art Education with a minor in Psychology from Marywood University, and I am certified to teach students in grades K-12. I received my Master's degree in Creative Arts in Therapy from Hahnemann University (now Drexel University). As I enter my 10th year of teaching Art at St. James, my role has expanded this year to include that of STREAM Coach.
I'm very blessed to be married to my husband/best friend and am the proud mother of four wonderful children/SJR alumni (Classes of '18, '19, and '22). My family and I are active members of St. Madeline's Parish, where we've been involved in various ministries over the years. I'm especially passionate about teaching your children in this faith-filled, Christ-centered environment that we call St. James Regional, and I look forward to nurturing their creativity, innovation, spirituality, and self-expression through a myriad of Art and STREAM projects this year!
